spring is in the air
  Started at Mon Mar 8 17:29:53 2004
Today spring officially came for me. True, it was sunny and warm, and I'm sure somewhere lovers were falling in love and birds were flying. For me, though, what made it spring was the arrival of girl scout cookies.

See, you order them in the winter and forget about it. Then one day at the beginning of sping a little girl dressed all in a hiddeous color of green comes to collect the money you fogot you spent, and gives you box after box of minty goodness.

So my freezer is now full of little green boxes of overpriced cookies, but my heart has been warmed once again.

So what makes you realize the reality of up and coming spring?

just curious....

I used to know it was spring when I put on my hideous green uniform and went door to door selling cookies.

Ahhhh.. The Sunshine.. the happiness in the air.... Most of all, when you pass out in school because of the heat because they won't turn off the heater from winter...

CCS

When is the official first day of Spring??

March 21 is the official start of Spring, I believe.

But you have to wait until May 31 (Memorial Day) to wear white. Curious.

Does anyone actually follow the "no white" rule anymore? Perhaps I'm, once again, proven to be a horrible person, but I wore white all winter. I generally try to follow the "no brown and black in the same outfit" thing, so I don't think I'm completely fashion inept. (Aparently I assume the white in winter to be a lesser fashion law. Perhaps therein lies my problem.)

I guess I've never seen the reasoning behind the white rule. Are people affraid of not being seen? Being hit by a car while out walking in a blizzard? I say if your out traipsing about in a blizzard you desserve to be hit, it's the law of the jungle, natural consequences, darwinism, and other such concepts.

I always justified by saying that I am wearing white after May. After last May. No one specified a May.

I think that it has something to do with labor day. Maybe a holdover of some type of respect thing. I dunno.

I think it's so us irish have time to tan our skin enough so we don't look paler than the actual white fabric.

Yeah, because red really stands out against white.

My all time favorite part about spring is when the Red Bud Trees start to bloom the pink blossoms and the fragrance is in the air.

It is kind of nice when all of the flowers and gardens barely start to grow.

I also really like the rain! grin

I know it's spring when my many-windowed apartment in one day goes from being unbearably cold to unbearably hot. I just want one day of room temperature! Just one day!

Today it was finally warm enough to ride my skateboard. But I was lazy so I just started riding along the sidewalk outside my apartment, four floors up (great idea, Linden.) At one point I fell off and my skateboard went under the railing and fell four floors. Luckily it landed on grass and got scuffed but didn't break. Really cool to watch it fall though.

Then some lady came up from downstairs and yelled at me. Ah, spring.

Well, kids. It's here- March 20, the first day of Spring (or Fruhlingsanfang as my calendar likes to call it). My neighbors got out their four-wheelers and boats this morning and are off now taking advantage of all Spring has to offer us. Me? I just finished watching the World Series of Blackjack on TV. ...I ate a Reese's shaped like an easter egg, though!

P.S. My sympathies, Lobsterita-- the skateboard sized band-aid is in the mail.
