Scottisms II: Scott Harder
  Started at Fri Jul 23 08:57:51 2004
Many of you may not remember such a time, but back when Kysoff enjoyed the low rent and leaky ceilings of Trolley Square, we also enjoyed the improv and guitar stylings of Mr.Scott Mclean. 'The Face' always had a kind word to share, and in his honor, we created
Scottisms
, a section of our message board dedicated to positive comments for our improv kin.

(I put this in the Resources section because, frankly, I always went back to the postive comments about mew and my team whenever I felt down, and they brought me right back up.)

so don't be a shit, don't be cynical, and no back-handed compliments. keep it Mclean.

Scottisms II

Ryan-You've grown more in this last year than I could ever believe, and seeing your improv affect your life on and off stage, I'm very very proud. It will be hard to leave you.

Jarky-My darling, I don't know what I would have done without being able to talk to you this past year. You've always been there for me, even as your life spins at an alarming rate towards greatness. About the Lounge Act...You're the talent, doll. I'm just the eye candy.

Jess-Jess, I don't even want to write a thing. it's apparent, even from 1400 miles away, that everyone in SLC loves you, and when I get back, I'll just be hopping on the bandwagon. On a side note...start practicing. I want a new tattoo before england.

Skirts-Girls, we're the hottest lesbian orgy ever, just waiting to happen. I'm counting down to DCM. I had a blast last year....and this year, we're going crazy. Insane. Can you say 'nude pillow fights'?

More to come....(don't you dare bitch, I have a LOT of people to scottify, I'll do it in installments)

p.s. don't respond to comments about you, no one line response "LMAO, thanks so much! ;-P" bullshit on this page. PM if you must. but this is purely for the scottisms themselves.

hmm. what with all the replies to my post, I can see why this message board never gets into petty fights...c'mon, people! do you have anything nice to say about your peers?

I do...in fact, I have good things to say about so many people that I couldn't narrow it down! So I'll just start with a few people and eventually get to all y'all.

Jady--thanks for starting this thread! The Scottisms were my favorite part of the KYSOff board. Anyhoo, I miss you! I miss doing scenes with you! Your character at the DCM last year was so great--so unconventional and so funny and you stuck with it completely the whole time. Good on ya.

Ryan--when you came back for TB2 and I saw you in some workshops and on stage, I could tell immediately how much you've learned. You really impressed me. You were really good before, but now you're really great and I admire your willingness to embrace your character and every gift that's given to you on stage.

That's all for now!

Just a few for now

Bob Bedore - Bob it sometimes gets lost how giving a person you are. When you have good fortune you try to share it with as many people as possible. I look at what you teach and tell people about having fun and sharing time and I think that it is very admirable. I got a lot of my need to share what I learned from you and I thank you for it.

Joe Rogan - You made me truly want to be a student of improv forever. Your constant learning and ability to digest what you want and use it to fuel your own improv is truly awesome. To see you teach is wonderful, to perform with you is like finding a part of my soul on stage.

Ryan Locante - This site would be a bunch of links and empty commentary if it weren't for you. In the body of improv, you are the soul. You are like a force unto yourself and watching you evolve as an improviser has been humbling. I miss lunch.

More later... people are watching.

my biggest scottism is for Scott actually. The Face is noticeably absent from the scene but hey, what the L:

Scott- You hung out with me when the only other people I knew where my dog, my parents, and my agent. You invited me to my first improv class. That rocks so hard. You are so positive (hence this thread) and there is such a lack of that in the world.

Bob-
Bob, you are so rad. You gave me time onstage and you know so much about Buffy you give me a run for my money. No matter what tiffs people might have, you are a gracious and kind person, on and offstage.

Improv ladies-
Nicol, Jaime, Lisa, Jen, Becca, Jady, Emily Shepard (sniff...) and Heather, you blow my mind. You are all so fearless onstage, and a rare breed of performers. Keep up all y'all.

Jesse-
You teach the best classes I've ever taken. You listen, you enjoy, and you give great critique.

Have a great summer everyone! Don't ever change and lets hang out sometime!

Calvin - One of the sharpest improvisors I know. You are constantly playing to the top of your intelligence. This is an attribute that will allow you to explore any aspect of any scene. You respond quickly and are fearless on stage. As a person you really care about people and are concerned for others and their well being. Calvin you are definitely on my cool people list.

Aidan - You have a huge stage presence and charisma that people love to watch. You are just easy to be around. You bring that to the stage and it is easy for the audience to be around. It makes going to shows an easy thing to do. I've never seen you break my personal #1 rule of improv - have fun. You are also on my list of cool people.

Jady - You take care of yourself on stage. When I watch you play I never have to worry about you. You can play everything from a simple game to a complex relationship. Watching you dominate the stage when you needed to and hold down your piece of the Skirts show was awesome! You really contribute what's needed to a piece. You also made my list of cool people.

Ryan - I was so impressed with you at 24 LIVE, I couldn't believe that you have gotten better since then! I could tell you have from only half an hour! You really listen and internalize everything you have been studying and it shows! You are applying things that some people can barely describe. You carry a pure honesty on stage that is clear as day. You are also on my list of cool people.

I will be sending e-mails out to all those who did not make my list of cool people shortly after I post this message. So, Check your email!

Austin

Adam- I think it got to a point where you were always just sort of expected to do good. I feel like I didn't tell you that you did a great job often enough (looking back). You are just Solid, from applying emotion, to truth, to listening and making your scene-partner comfortable as well as look funny. This is more mushy than I meant it to sound. I miss playing with you: improv, football, and basketball. Now to end on a manly note. You are one bad-ass dude, that shouldn't get married within then next five years, and should probably break up with his girlfriend wink

You did not receive an e-mail from me, because you are definitely on my cool people list.

This is a great idea!
Wendyleopardess: You amaze the crap out of me! You totally raise the bar, especially for women. Thank you so much for getting me involved. I always wanted to do improv and you opened that door for me.

Tilt: If there is anyone who can rile up a crowd it's you.Your passion inspires me. The things that come out of your head......sheesh.

Turtle: You have the most unique sense of humor. You bring a whole different element to the show. People can't wait to see what comes out of this straightedge, hardcore looking kid.

Clown: You're so fun to watch! You have a definite presence! And your stickers are awesome.

Jarky: You did so much for our troupe. You are so knowledgeable and you seem like the coolest person! Best of luck in New York!!! (ps:your friend was pretty)

Awwwwwww......warm fuzzies!
(I wish that I knew more of you. Do not fear, 'tis only a matter of time)grin

i wanna do this wothout being vague and all-encompassing...

warning: i'll leave a lot of you out, and these are in no particular order:

lisa - i put you first for a reason. you are awesome. lisary was incredibly fun, and you showed lots of cool changes and confidence in nyc. i think you're glue on and off stage, lisa. i hope you know what i mean. don't change anything.

austin - here's why you're 2nd: the talk in new york is why you're awesome. we should hang out more, and it's funny cos we haven't done that much improv together (other than 24 hours straight).

jesse - i put you 3rd on this list. you challenge me because you are just as firm as i am in your stance on improv. i like to complain about you when i'm done talking, but you're still awesome. that intensive class was perfect and the last two times i saw you do improv, you were great.

joe roe - 4th on my list! i said this before, but i wouldn't be where i am without you. thanks for giving me all those chances. you believed in me, and sometimes that's all people need. more people should believe like you do.

jady - you're #5 because i know it will bother you that you're here. from tagalong to best friend, you are hilarious, confident, sassy, brave, and cute. plus you're great on stage as well! you're making an awesome decision too.

troy - you're number 6 for a reason. i love watching you do things and i find it creepy that you play differently when you play with me. i like it. i wish you would call me back.

jarky & scott - you guys are number 7. i put you together, because you're virtually the same. i can't tell the difference between you guys sometimes. you both rock in different ways. jake, have fun in nyc. scott, stop looking at me.

wendy, tilt, and turtle - you guys are number 8. i wish i met you people sooner (tj, i'm talking about as a group)... that workshop was so fun, and i can't believe how f*cking great all 3 of you are. i love your attitude about improv and i love your actual improv about equally. open minds and open eyes... i can't wait to see you guys again.

joe and kyle - i wish we got to play together more, and you guys amazed me that first time i came up to clearfield to teach. see #8 for some very similar comments about you two. that good will hunting thing was the best moment to ever happen in front of bar patrons not paying attention. seriously! ev-er!

...in no particular order

Oh!! Oh!! My turn, my turn!!

Turtle You inspire me everyday with your passion and talent for improv. I love playing with you because you know how to say the expected in such an unexpected way that it's just pure gold. You give so much on and off stage. You're my favorite.

typhoon You are so funny, and have such a great dry humor in your improv that no one else on earth could work the way you work it. You have such a natural talent for improv! You are also one of those girl improvers who rock because you don't think too much about what you're doing, you just do it!

Tilt Your passion for this drives me crazy! I love that after two shows you were hooked, and you should be; you're awesome at it. I can't even comprehend grasping the concepts as easily and fast as you do. You rock!

Jarky You don't even know what your workshop meant to our troupe. You helped us so much, and after you left some kids who weren't excited at all about longform now can't get enough because of your workshop. We love you! You're awesome and welcome back anytime!

ryan You helped get me excited about longform--I had gone to your workshop not expecting to understand or enjoy longform and you put it out there where I felt I could someday reach it. thank you. I wish I had met you earlier too because then maybe we could have played together at least once.

Jesse & Joe Aside from all I had heard about you both from TJ and Will, the first time I really met you in person was at workshops, and I really appreciate your honesty with me. I love going to a workshop and being called on my shit. I've learned so much from you guys and you've really made me feel welcome in the Utah improv community. Thank you.

and last but not least....

the Off the Cuff-ers I love you guys with all my heart! It's nice not only to play with talented improvisors, but to play with them and know they are your best friends and your core in life makes it all the sweeter...

The future Mrs. Penrod

I do not think it amounted to 33%.
  Reply #11 Posted at Tue Nov 22 00:47:51 2016
Developmental Disability includes Autism, Asperger's, PDD and other diagnoses. Developmental Delay includes ADD, Learning Disability Michael Thomas Jersey , Dyslexia, and more. Then there is Global Developmental Disorder and Auditory Processing Disorder, and I don't know where they fit in the official structure of diagnostic categories, but I know they are a developmental problem.

I have been working with children with developmental problems for a few years. I use the terms developmental problems to encompass everything from Developmental Disability to Developmental Delay, and even more. In our consulting program we consider them all fundamentally the same. They differ only by degrees. We have developed protocols which succeed with all of the developmental problems. Our technique cultivates the childs hidden capability for becoming age-appropriate.

How many are affected?

All of these developmental problems add up to about 28 million children in America. The Census Bureau reports there a total of 85 million children in America. The APA (American Pediatric Association) tells us that one in every six children have a diagnosis for some developmental problem (16.7%). The different associations for all of the individual diagnostic categories of developmental problems all agree when they tell us that about 50% of the children with these problems obtain a diagnosis for their problem (for a total of 33%). And, one third of 85 million is 28 million children.

That means that 33% of all the children in every class have some degree of developmental problem. Maybe it shows up as an inability to focus or sit still. Maybe it shows up as an inability to learn basic skills. Maybe it shows up as an inability to hit a ball. Maybe it is so intensive, the children never learn to connect to the context. Maybe it is mild and only an inconvenience to the child and the parents.

In whatever form Kenny Vaccaro Jersey , developmental problems seem to be growing in numbers. We are certainly getting more precise with our diagnoses. And, we are certainly advanced as a country so that we offer those testing services to more families who otherwise could not afford it. But, I am not sure this is the reason we have 33% of our children with developmental problems.

When I was a child in school, many years ago, I do not remember 33% of the children having these types of problems in my neighborhood. I remember that maybe 5% to 10% might have had these kinds of problems, but I do not think it amounted to 33%.
