Blowing My Horn...
  Started at Thu Jul 27 14:08:30 2006
Okay, I know this may sound really cheesey but I just wanted to give myself a little self promotion (I know, I read Joe's article on that).

I just happened to check on Amazon.com today and see if my book is still listed. Not only was it still listed but I couldn't believe where it wasa ranked...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #51,896 in Books (See Top Sellers in Books)
Yesterday: #94,236 in Books

I copied that from the site. I know being ranked at 51,000 may not seem all that great, but when the book first came out it hit the site listed over 2 million. I was very happy when it went below the one million ranking spot. Now to see it here, after being out for a couple of years is really cool.

I know that there are some who think the book is fluff and that I don't know anything, but I'm still very proud of this book. I get a lot of feedback from teachers who use it with their kids and they have a lot of fun, and that's the biggest joy I can think of.

So I just wanted to take a moment and crow for a bit and give a little shout out to everyone who is keeping the will to imagine alive in the youth.

There... I'm done grandstanding... for now.

Much Love,
Bob

You are both right and have shown me the errors in tooting your own horn.

Without the photos of Troy (and Brooks -- the others pictured are okay, but not movers of books like Troy and Brooks!) and the quote from Jesse, the book would be nothing.

I lost my head in the bright lights of Amazon stardom and was drunk with the thought of cracking the top 50,000 books. I lost sight of what is really important and I feel badly about it.

Thank you Troy and Jesse... oh, and thank you "The Truth" if you're still out there. I'd be nothing without you.

I jsut wish I could've gotten Paul Weinberger into the book... I'd have a best seller and a movie deal if I'd have been able to swing that... but Paul's agent was asking for way too much money... and Cuban Cigars.

Okay... so I'm sick and now I keep checking on how things are going... Today I finally cracked the 50,000 mark...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #45,578 in Books (See Top Sellers in Books)
Yesterday: #129,934 in Books

Sure... there are few who really care, but it means a great deal to me and I had to shout a little. Now I'm going to go hit the publishers up for the second book. This was going to have a lot more stuff for the performer (as opposed to the teacher in the first book). it will also have a whole section on Long Form (that should be interesting).

Something strange is really happening with the book and I wish I knew what it is! I'm thinking that it's the teaachers buying it before the school year, but look at the latest ranking...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #27,844 in Books (See Top Sellers in Books)

That's as of noon today.

I've spoken with the publishers and they are now finally talking about doing another book. They just don't know if it's going to be a "101 more..." or a whole different book.

Anyway... I've got a big ol' smile on my face these days... for many, many reasons...

Do the other reasons have to do with the double entendre of this thread title? wink

Are you kidding... If I get the book higher in the rankings I'll be able to get someone else to do it for me!

Oh... and it should be mentiioned that the other quote at the start of the book comes form Will who shares a panel position with Jesse. I obviously picked the right two guys to help out...

What to do mean the thread title? This whole post is engrossed with sexual innuendoes. Let's take a look.

"I'm seriously freaking out!"

"stroking my ego... screw it..."

"doing another book"

"that's the biggest joy I can think of."

"give a little"

"after being out for a couple of years"

"I get a lot of feedback from teachers who use it"

"I lost my head"

"I just wish I could've gotten Paul Weinberger"

"it will also have a whole section on Long Form"

"stay away from my royalties!!"

"Something strange is really happening…I wish I knew what it is!"

Your a sick little man Mr. Bedore

Another quick update... and I'll keep the sexual references to a minimum...

The publishers do want another book so I'm starting on it right now. This one will also include a DVD of various improv performances. We'll see what happens with it...

And I'm sorry you didn't "get" the book Some Guy, I was unaware that it was hard to "get" but thanks for registering brand new on to the site just to make the comment... but I thought taking the enuendo quotes was pretty funny...

I did "get" that.

Yes I understand… however recently I took this book and approached a local playground with the intention of getting the children to play some of these games with me. After all, as you say the book is called “101 Improv Games for Children and Adults”, surprisingly I was met with a considerable amount of resistance. Long story short…the rest of the day was a disaster and I left the park feeling quite alone and rejected.

Okay... I know full well that his thread has been my own personal "look at me" bit... but it's also a way for me to chronicle something that is very cool to me...

The Amazon ranking for the book is now...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #11,903 in Books

I really don't know what got things going, but I've gotten a couple of emails lately from teachers who are using it this year and it is very humbling -- though this thread looks like anything BUT humble.

I guess this is the only way I can get out my excitement without screaming my lungs out!!

I had let it die down after my initial bit of hyperventalation, but since you asked...

The rank today is...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #72,765 in Books

But it's been up into the 150,000 rank most of the last few months.

The real low rankings was likely because of school teachers buying it for their classrooms... though I'm still proud of the rank today.

I've got the go ahead for the second book and I'm trying to find the right format. I'm not sure I want to to "101 MORE improv games", though it's an easy way to do it. This one is going to focus on more scene work and long form bits to go with the short form stuff. It will also have a chapter on using improv skills in everyday life. I teach sales people how to use the principles of improv to find what their customers really want (yes, and... etc.).

So if you have any ideas on what you think should be in an improv book but hasn't yet... let me know. Within reason of course. Sure we'd all like to see more nude shots of Paul Weinberger in improv books, but my pulishers have already said "no".

That's money on a photo shoot I'll never get back.

Are you kidding? I'll sign you!

That made me check Amazon to see where it is these days and it's moved back up a bit...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #30,749 in Books

That must have taken into account Jake's purchase.

For my own personal diary...

The book is on another push up for some reason... today it's at...

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #17,963 in Books.

I wonder how many books Jake ended up buying!
