I am way down! The honest truth is... I have never been to a true festival. I wouldnt know where to start but I am more then willing to make it up as I go. Im sure Jesse would have information and sugestions. Also, he is pretty recognized in the bigger Improv comunity, we could ride on his rep.

That being said, whats the first step? Anyone else want to do this? Is there a good reason not to do this? Why has it not been done before?

For answers to these exciting questions and more, stay tuned....

After the successes of the Brawls, I'd love to do a marathon similar to DSI's 24:LIVE. It's a benefit where various troupes/groups perform in 30 minute slots and there is a core group that performas the whole 24 hours.

It'd be sweet!

What needs to be done to lay the groundwork. Give me direction Jesse. This could be huge for Improv utah.

I nominate Jesse to be the head of this...

That doesn't mean that he does all the work, but he does know the most and is probably the most respected leader of the group.

I will be happy to follow any orders and help out in any way I can.

The biggest thing is to get a venue. Once you have that the rest takes care of itself. The Comedy Ciruit probably wouldn't work because we'd like to do this on a weekend and they are book with bands at 7:00.

But even in my old age I'd still be willing to go 24 hours straight. But let's make sure that we put in some cool wrinkles like the competition thing we all talked about earlier.

We could even do the 24 hours in the matter of the Cage Match thing where the winning team stays and takes on new teams. An overall record could be kept and the top two teams square off at the end for the big title.

There's a lot of ways to do it and I'd be happy to be in any one of them.

Bob

Do we want to keep it local or open it up? Send out invites to the Improv comunity at large? What kind of timeline should we look at? I think the all-stars thing should go first. Then maybe they can even be in the festival too.
You know a common thread in most of these..um threads is a venue. We all have venues for our own shows but a location for a mass gathering seems to slow us down. We need to do fund raisers for these ideas. Maybe that is the first step, to raise some money. Create a Utah Improv fund. Can that happen? What do we do for legal reasons as far as raising money and spending it on state wide activities?

I agree josh we should create an improv guild. I too have never been to a festival but I am going to DSIF in february so I will be a sponge soaking up as much knowledge as possible so we can make something like this happen.

Hmm... I have thought about doing this many times. I have also been seriously thinking of starting the process to make UtahImprov a non-profit. This gives me some motivation.

You guys are all great!

First off, a venue is probably the most important. It needs to be booked 6 months or more out to get organized.

Then it's finding a charity. Things go better for promotion and sponsorships with a charity.

Then finding one or two BIG sponsors. It's easier to have more local support if you can say your main sponsor is Red Bull.

Then or around then it's the cast. Who is your core? How many other groups can you get interested? Any big out of town talent?

That's some rough thinking about how to proceed.

Well then... the charity part could be easily solved. The sponsers might be a lil tougher but not impossible. It comes back to the venue. That keeps popping up. Also out of town talent... Havent we sent enough Improv missionaries out to be able to draw some talent in? Who is a big local company that might sponser it? What about Jell-o? That would fit right in lol

Let me know if I can do anything Jesse.

Any ideas on venue?

If we want to book it out way in advance (like the six months Jesse mentioned) I'm sure we could get the Comedy Circuit. It has it's pros and cons, but all in all it's a pretty good stage for this tpe of thing.

Summer is also a pretty slow time for improv and so that gives us a few pros and cons to think about in terms of when this all happens.

Sounds like it's time to form some sort of committee and talk it out...

I would stay away from "Salt Lake" in any sort of name. Many of the players will come from outside of Salt Lake and we want to push that this is a much bigger thing.

In the name I would push the "24 Hour" theme to it. That way people know just how big it is.

And here is another thought to this whole thing... Why not just go all out and go for a record.

In looking at "Yesand.com" there was a conversation about it and a certain poster called "Jesster" (who had a great picture and called himself the Bas Rutten of Improv) had some pretty good figures for troupes that lay claim to different times.

http://forums.yesand.com/showthread.php?t=3129

It seems that Guiness doesn't put any stock in a record, but people are interested and maybe we could be a part of it.

It would have to be one troupe to make that part really mean something, so maybe it wouldn't work for what we're talking about. But if we did it might be a good waay to bring out the "All Star" team and have them debut with a big bang.

With the press coverage of something like this it might be a good way to get sponsers and stuff...

Bob

And, seriously Jesse... I love the wrestler photo...

Someone else called me the Bas Rutten of improv. I just went with it. And he's a Ultimate Fighter, not a wrestler.

Ba-Dang!!

Local media will eat this up with a spoon. I really want to do the first year on a college campus and plug into that community. Preferably the U.

How bout "Infinite Funny-an Improv count down" We could set up a huge clock that will count down to the current record. I have always wanted to be in a record breaking scene or show. I think just the chance to play with a large group over the course of two days would be fantastic. Bob raises a good point with sponsers. Who has contacts? How long do we need to prepare and spread the word? Im excited about this.
